Selemat Datang di Bali - Welcome to Bali

Sommigen van jullie weten wellicht dat mijn vader in Indonesië werd geboren en ik als kind al veelvuldig in die prachtige Gordel van Smaragd ben geweest. Inmiddels heb ik ook samen met mijn man veel van de eilanden daar mogen bezoeken, maar Bali heeft toch wel een heel speciaal plekje in ons hart. De mensen, de cultuur, de schitterende natuur, het eten, de dansen, de tempels en zo kan ik nog wel even door gaan. Op Deviantart (artiest In-Sine) kwam ik deze schitterende tekening tegen van een Balinese legong-danseres. Tempels worden daar afgesloten met houten deuren voorzien van het meest fantastische houtsnijwerk en dat heb ik hier een beetje willen nabootsen met behulp van die geweldige nieuwe mallen van Memory Box. Veel groen aan de binnenzijde, want bloemen en planten kenmerken Bali.
Some of you probably know that my father was born in Indonesia and that I spent quite a few holidays as a child in this beautiful country with its thousands of islands. Over the years my DH and I were fortunate enough to visit a lot of those islands, but I must confess that Bali has a very special place in both of our hearts. Its people, its culture, an overwhelmingly beautiful natural environment, delicious food, dances, temples and what have you. I came across this beautiful drawing of a Balinese legong dancer on Deviantart (by an artist called In-Sine). Temples and compounds in Bali have intricately carved wooden doors, which I tried to copy a bit by using those fab new dies from Memory Box. With lots of green on the inside, for flowers and plants are so characteristic to Bali:

At my age I need glasses ;-)

Hebben jullie dat nou ook? Dat naarmate de jaren vorderen je smaak steeds sterker wordt? Zo gaf ik vroeger helemaal niets om koffie, rode wijn en oude kaas, nou, ik kan jullie zeggen dat dat aardig veranderd is ha ha ha! En ach, ze zeggen toch dat rode wijn goed is voor je hart? Nou, m'n man en ik houden wel van een goed glas op z'n tijd hoor. Hebben jullie wel eens gehoord van 'omfietswijnen'? Van die wijnen waar je best wat extra kilometers voor wilt rijden? Zo ééntje heb ik onlangs gevonden en het leek me leuk om mijn mannetje hiermee te verrassen voor het weekend, maar ja, een gewoon papiertje er omheen is ook zo saai, vandaar dat ik er maar wat omheen heb verzonnen. De man op de foto is George Wyndham, een Brits politicus uit de 19e eeuw, blijkt echter dat hij ook een naamgenoot heeft die (ook in de 19e eeuw!) de Australische Shiraz-wijnen heeft ontwikkeld! Vond ik dus wel een grappige toevalligheid! Ik viel nl. op die snor, tja, was vroeger als meisje van 15 al behoorlijk gecharmeerd van besnorde mannen zoals Magnum P.I., kennen jullie vast nog wel ;-) Goed, ik dwaal af, waar was ik, oh ja, dat omfietsen dus, daarom moest die leuke vintagefiets er natuurlijk bij én die snor! Want ja, snorren zijn tegenwoordig toch weer helemaal hip? En die cijfertjes? Ja, je weet toch nooit van tevoren of het bij 1-2-of-3 glaasjes blijft? En de knoopjes? Tja, na een glaasje wijn kan er wel een extra knoopje los...
Does this sound familiar to you: that the older you get, your taste gets more pronounced? I didn't give a ... about coffee, red wine and old cheese, boy, let me tell you that that most certainly has changed, LOL! Oh well, don't they say red wine is good for the heart? And my DH and I do {heart} a nice glass of red once in a while. Have you ever heard of 'omfietswijnen'? Wines for which you're more than happy to drive a couple of extra miles to buy. I recently found one of those and I thought it would be a lovely surprise for my DH for the upcoming weekend. Of course I could have wrapped some nice paper around it, but I found that rather dull, hence the story that goes with this bottle. The man in the picture is George Wyndham, a British 19th century politican, but apparently he has a namesake who happens to be the (19th century) founder of the Australian Shiraz wines! I thought this was quite a funny coincidence! I just fancied his moustache ;-) I've always been fond of men with a moustache, as a 15-year-old girl I loved looking at Magnum P.I., you girls will surely remember him? Ok, I'm getting off track here... Oh yes, the extra miles, hence the fabulous vintage bike AND the moustache! Because moustaches are all the rage these days! And the numbers? Guess you just never know if you're going to have 1-2-or-3 glasses ;-) And the buttons? Well, after a glass of wine it's ok to loosen up a bit...

Tot mijn grote verrassing kreeg ik van mijn goede vriendin Ros deze schitterende kaart als bedankje voor de boekkaart die ik voor haar verjaardag had gemaakt! Had echt niet gehoeven maar ik vind het vreselijk lief van haar. Dus nogmaals bedankt lieve Ros!
To my huge surprise my dear friend Ros sent me this gorgeous card to say thank you for the book box I made for her birthday! You really shouldn't have, but I truly love you for it. So thanks once again dear Ros!

Seasons come and go...

Het ziet hier nog steeds wit van de sneeuw en dat maakt mijn verlangen naar de lente alleen maar groter ha ha ha! Daarom heb ik vandaag een kaart, of beter gezegd, twéé kaarten om te laten zien. Jullie kennen vast het sprookje van Vrouw Holle nog wel? Toen ik deze prachtige stempel van onze lieve teamleidster Teresa van My Crafty Heart toegestuurd kreeg, moest ik daar meteen aan denken. Aan jullie dus de keuze vandaag: kiezen jullie voor de lente of toch voor de winter? Ik ben benieuwd! Eerlijk gezegd zijn alle seizoenen mooi, toch? Zelfs onze gezichten ontkomen niet aan die seizoenswisselingen, maar zeg nou zelf, is dat zo erg? Die paar rimpels? (of een paar meer?). Zo lang ze maar van het lachen komen ;-)
Ik heb twee kaarten aan elkaar gemaakt (kan zelfs nog gewoon worden verzonden, ook al worden de bloemen dan wel wat 'geplet').

It's still white with snow over here, which only increases my longing for spring, LOL! So I've got a card, or better still, TWO cards to show you today. You are probably all familiar with the fairytale of Mother Hulda? When our sweet team leader Teresa from My Crafty Heart sent me this lovely Elizabeth Bell stamp to work with, that fairytale immediately sprung to mind. Which season do you girls prefer? Spring or winter? Would love to know! But aren't all seasons beautiful? Even our faces have to undergo the changing of the seasons, LOL! Honestly, that isn't so bad now, is it? Those few wrinkles (or perhaps a couple more?) As long as you can say they came from laughing too much ;-)

Er is er één jarig hoera hoera! En dat is mijn vriendin Odetta! Ik mag hopen dat de post al is langs geweest en dat ze niet een blik werpt op m'n blog vandaag ;-) Ik was al zó lang van plan om 'iets met Audrey Hepburn' te doen en nu had ik de perfecte gelegenheid. Toen ik tussen mijn voorraad het mooie papier van Teresa Collins tegenkwam, kwam het idee eigenlijk vanzelf. Deze trapjeskaart en quote/tag boekje heb ik voor haar gemaakt (sorry meiden, heb vandaag wel een ontzettende bult foto's geloof ik ha ha ha!). Bedankt voor jullie tijd en voor het kijken weer, maak er een mooi weekend van!
And we've got another birthday today, hip hip hooray! It's my friend Odetta! Hopefully the postman has already brought the mail round to her and that she's not peeking in today ;-) For quite some time now I wanted 'to do something with Audrey Hepburn' and Odetta's birthday was just the occasion I needed. Between my stash I found the lovely papers from Teresa Collins and the idea of how to use it was born pretty easily. I made this stair step card and a tag/quote booklet (sorry girls, I've got quite an amount of photos today, LOL!), thanks for your time and for watching today, have a great weekend!

Keep Calm and read a Book...

Ik had weer eens zin om een book box te maken en heb deze met veel plezier voor een goede vriendin van me gemaakt. Toen ik deze prachtig bewerkte foto van Lily Elsie op Deviantart (bewerkt door Safari99) tegenkwam , wist ik meteen welk papier ik hier bij wilde gebruiken. Maak er een mooie zondag van, ik kom jullie blogs weer snel bezoeken!
I really felt like making another book box and had tons of fun making this one for one of my very dear friends. When I found this gorgeously altered photo of Lily Elsie on Deviantart (adapted by Safari99), I immediately had the right papers for it. Have a lovely Sunday, I'll be visiting real soon!
