Full many a flower is born to blush unseen... ~Jane Austen

It's been a while since I last posted here on my blog, We've been too busy preparing for our new season... But of course I had to make something for our Poppystamps Blog Hop which is running until tomorrow. Would you like to win one of those new dies, then please leave your comments on our blog as well and who knows you may find yourself to be the lucky winner of one of them! In my case you can win the die I've used in my Jane Austen cameo, which turned out to be pretty big, approx. 35 cms!
I first cut out the silhouette of Jane Austen out of sturdy white paper and chalked the edges. The Mod Flower Border is such a delicate, refined and detailed die, it so reminded me of those lacey collars ladies used to wear in days long gone. I made my background by first printing several quotes on my paper and inking up some Memory Box stencils. I then added liquid pearls around the edge:

“What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance.”

Jane Austen's words, no mine;-) I really love this weather! But it's also nice to enjoy the cooling shade of the trees and read a good book. I've immensely enjoyed reading Dan Brown's "Inferno"  and Paulo Coelho's "Manuscript found in Accra" is already waiting for me! Two totally different books from those Jane Austen once wrote, although her books will always be favourites of mine. The beautiful weather of the past couple of days inspired me to create these little gazebos. I was fantasizing about how Edwardian ladies were able to stand the stifling heat in their muslin dresses and that Jane might even have written her notes in one of those romantic gazebos in the garden. Perhaps even carelessly throwing them on the floor  for not being totally satisfied with them. The gazebos can be sent as cards, for the sides can all be folded inwards ;-)

And I made another one, for my dear blog buddy Alessandra to thank her for winning her giveaway last week. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart, you're a real treasure!

And here's what I've been able to buy with Alessandra's voucher, I'm such a spoilt brat, spoilt to the chore, that's what I am!

200th Anniversary of "Pride and Prejudice

Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, of misschien toch Laurence Olivier? Geef mij maar Colin Firth ha ha, alhoewel, Matthew heeft zo'n heerlijke stem, zwijmel...
Lovers of Jane Austen's work will certainly have noticed the 200th Anniversary of her famous novel and often filmed "Pride and Prejudice" the end of last month. And since I've always been such an ardent fan of her work, I simply didn't want this to pass without creating a little something. I used parts from the letters that Jane wrote to her sister Cassandra and printed them on some lovely stationery (of course I used the font "Jane Austen" for this ;-) You can find those letters and more information on this website here. I took a piece of satin ribbon and attached some charms, first cut out the silhouettes from scherenschnitte-paper, glued them onto the same stationery and added a nice glossy layer. This will serve well as a bookmark! The tealights are super easy to make: I just wrapped parts of the letter around them, glued some cut out silhouettes on them and voilà, you can start your candle light reading ;-) For the bracelet I took some larger pearls, added a charm (which was done in the same way), stamped a swirl and it goes without saying that the quote is by the one and only Jane Austen. And aren't we all too familiar with the passionate relationship between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy?? Who would be your favourite Darcy in the movies? Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen or maybe even Laurence Olivier? I'll have Colin any time, lol, although on second thought... Matthew has such a wonderful voice, swoon...

Those of you that have been following my blog for some time now, know that I love to alter things. I was recently cleaning out my cupboard, did a bit of "spring cleaning" so to speak and came across these old shoes:
I thought it would be such a waste just to get rid of them and wanted to turn one of them into a cosy bird's nest, this is how it finally turned out. I glued purple feathers all over the shoe, used doilies, made the flower on the heel with a new Kreaxion die, I cut out a small picture of a vintage lady and used Glossy Accents to give it a lovely shine. Oh and I also needed to paint the inside of the shoe with purple mother of pearl paint. The nest is ready for some new inhabitants ;-)

But you know how these things go, if you come across one thing, you'll bound to find other things that you can work with. I got these plaster eggs for free last year at Kruidvat's (a Dutch drugstore). They're meant to be painted, so I first added a few layers of vanilla coloured acrylic paint and then started to embellish them, not too neat and precise, I wanted to have them a slightly 'shabby' look. Since I'm an ardent fan of Jane Austen, I've piled up quite a few images of which I used a couple. DP is from Prima Marketing.

Christmas with Jane Austen

James). Fijne Kerst, Miss Austen!
Those who follow my blog know that I'm a huge Jane Austen fan. Some new books were recently published, "The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen" (Lindsay Ashford) and "Death comes to Pemberley" (P.D. James). I love detectives/thrillers AND Jane Austen, so there we have it, I've got a few books waiting to be read! Why the stocking? I was wondering how Jane would have celebrated her Christmases and so I allowed myself to give it my own twist. I cut out a stocking from satin and embellished it with lace; the flowers are also handmade according to this technique. I found this image in one of my books, scanned it first, printed it onto transfer paper and ironed it on a piece of cotton. Merry Christmas, Miss Austen!
