Vandaag is mijn laatste dag als lid van het Poppystamps Design Team. Door toenemende drukte in ons bedrijf heb ik hier helaas afscheid van moeten nemen (en eerlijk gezegd ook door creatieve beperkingen...) Ik heb met veel plezier deel uitgemaakt van dit team, zat er vanaf het begin bij. Dus neem ik daar afscheid van met Love en een Smile ;-)

Today is my last post for our Poppystamps DT. Sadly I've had to step down because of an increasing workload at our company (and to be honest because of creative hinderings as well...) It's been a pleasure to have been part of this wonderful team from the beginning. So I thought I'd say goodbye with lots of Love and a Smile ;-)

Ik heb deze kaart gemaakt voor een lieve vriendin van me die door een heel zwaar dal gaat momenteel, dus stuur ik haar dit hart vol liefde. Heb de hartenkrans 2x uitgesneden en op elkaar gelegd, takjes idem dito. Heb de LOVE-letters uitgesneden en lekker veel glitterlijm gebruikt voor de nodige bling:

I made this card for a dear friend of mine, who is going through a really rough patch in life, so I thought I'd send her a heart filled with love. I cut the heart wreath twice and layered them on top of each other. I then cut out two branches and added the birdies. I then cut out the LOVE letters and added lots of glitter glue to give them a nice shine:

En ik wilde mijn tijd bij Poppystamps graag afsluiten met een Smile kaart. Heb eerst de achtergrond gemaakt door diverse kleuren distress inkt te 'spritzen', gedroogd en de vlinders en klaprozen uitgesneden:

And I couldn't resist making another card to say thank you to all of you in the hopes it will leave a smile on your faces ;-) I first set out to colour my background with several colours of distress ink and then cut out the poppyflowers and butterfly:

A Sad Card Today...

Voor sommigen van jullie zal het nieuwe jaar mooi zijn begonnen, voor sommigen helaas niet... Zo heeft mijn lieve vriendin Odetta van haar moeder afscheid moeten nemen... Omdat zij in van Thaise komaf is, wou ik een exotische condoleancekaart maken en daar horen ook bloemen bij... De Spellbinders Dogwood Flower vond ik daar erg mooi bij passen, zeker in combinatie met de Cheery Lynn Pair of Ferns... Heb het Thaise woord voor "Liefde" moeten opzoeken, want ook al moet je in dit leven afscheid van elkaar nemen, de liefde blijft...

Some of you will have had a wonderful start of the new year, some of you I'm sad to say will not... My dear friend Odetta has had to say goodbye to her mother... Because she was of Thai descent, I wanted to create an exotic condolence card and that includes flowers... Spellbinders Dogwood Flower is a wonderful die which allows you to create delicate flowers, particularly in combination with Cheery Lynn Pair of Ferns... I've had to look up the Thai word for "Love", because even if you have to say goodby to each other in this life, the love between you will always be there...

Life Is Short, Wear High Heels!

Wanneer je mijn blog regelmatig bezoekt, dan weet je dat ik een échte schoenenliefhebber ben. Schoenen en boeken, daar draai ik mijn hoofd graag voor om! Ik kon het dus eigenlijk niet laten om voor een jarige vriendin van me dit Victoriaanse laarsje te maken. Met een hakje, want ja, dan lijk je nog wat als je net zoals ik niet zo groot ben hi hi hi! En i.p.v. de rijgveters heb ik natuurlijk bloemetjes gebruikt, want da´s weer een andere tic van me. Het is echt heerlijk blogweer, het heeft hier zojuist zelfs gehageld, dat geloof je toch niet! Geniet van jullie avond en bedankt weer voor het langskomen, altijd gezellig om jullie hier te ontmoeten!

If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you know that I´m a real shoe addict. 

A nice couple of shoes and books always make my head turn! So I couldn´t resist making this Victorian boot for a friend of mine who´s celebrating her birthday in a couple of days. With a heel, because yes, it´ll make you look taller, especially when you´re quite small, like me, lol! And instead of shoelaces I of course went with some flowers, flowers being another addiction of mine. This is the best blog weather ever, we´ve even had hail just now! Would you believe it! Enjoy your evening girls and thanks for barging in, always enjoying your company!

A Marie Antoinette Christmas

Zijn jullie al klaar voor de Kerst? De kerstkaarten allemaal de deur uit en het huis gezellig versierd? Kan er niets aan doen, maar ik vind dit één van de mooiste tijden van het jaar, de geur van kaneel, glühwein, kaarsjes aan (al branden die bij ons zo'n beetje het hele jaar door) en natuurlijk toch ieder jaar proberen om weer iets anders te verzinnen als versiering. Ik ben dól op kerstsokken, misschien herinneren jullie je deze nog, van vorig jaar? Toen was bij mij het thema Jane Austen, dit jaar heb ik gekozen voor Marie Antoinette, het werd weer eens tijd voor haar ;-) Heb uit satijn een lange kous geknipt en tussen twee lagen satijn fiberfill gedaan voor de vulling. Daarna onder het naaimachine en toen kon het leuke werk beginnen: het versieren! Veel kant, veren, een zelfgemaakte bloem (tutorial vind je hier op mijn blog), een strik van manliefs overhemd (wie wat bewaart heeft wat hè?), parels, charms en witte bloemen van respectievelijk mijn vriendinnetjes Odetta en Sue.
En dan nog even een vraagje: mocht je dit lezen Sylvia dan wil ik je hartelijk bedanken voor je reactie op m'n vorige post, ik wou terugreageren maar had geen email-adres van je, noch was je blogprofiel toegankelijk.
Have you girls finished your Christmas preparations yet? All of your Christmas cards sent to your family and friends, your house wonderfully decorated? I can't help it, but I really love this time of the year, the wonderful smell of cinnamon, glühwein, candles (although we burn them nearly all year round). And every year I'm trying to create my own ornaments. I LOVE stockings, maybe you remember this one, from last year? When I made a Jane Austen style stocking? This year I thought I'd bring on Marie Antoinette, high time that I did ;-) I cut out a long stocking from satin and added fiberfill between two layers of satin. After stitching it up I could finally start the fun part: adding embellishments! Lots of lace, feathers, a DIY flower (you can find my tutorial here), a lovely white ribbon of my DH's shirt (it's a good thing not to throw away things too easily!), some pearls, charms and white flowers from my sweet friends Odetta and Sue.

Marie Antoinette's Love Letter

Wat is een leven zonder romantiek? Ook al weten we allemaal hoe het leven van Marie Antoinette is geëindigd, we weten dat ook zij een romantisch leven heeft gehad. Ik heb een liefdesbrieventasje gemaakt van katoen canvas, helemaal met de hand genaaid. De satijnen bloem is gemaakt volgens mijn tutorial die jullie hier kunnen vinden. Wat verschillende kantjes en parels maken het tasje verder af. Maar nou zou ik bijna het belangrijkste vergeten, de afbeelding zelf! Ik heb in Photoshop een collage gemaakt van diverse afbeeldingen, de tekst "Paris 1784" is er met het lettertype Penman Script op gezet, ook voor de liefdesbrief zelf heb ik dit lettertype gebruikt. Daarna het canvas 'gewoon' door de printer gehaald. Mochten jullie trouwens deze afbeelding graag willen hebben, stuur me dan een mailtje.
What's life without romance? Even though we all know how Marie Antoinette's life ended, we also know that she knew a romantic life, too. I made a love letter pouch out of burlap, sewn by hand. I made the satin flower according to my tutorial that you can find here. Some lace and pearls for further embellishing. But I would almost forget the most important thing, the image itself ;-) I made a collage in Photoshop with several images, I used the font Penman Script for both the text "Paris 1784" and the love letter. I then printed the image directly onto the burlap. Should you wish to use this collage, too, please drop me a line and I'll send it to you.

Christmas with Jane Austen

Degenen die mijn blog al enige tijd volgen, weten dat ik een enorme Jane Austen fan ben. Er zijn pas wat nieuwe boeken uitgekomen, "The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen" (Lindsay Ashford) en "Death comes to Pemberley" (P.D. James). Ik hou van crimi's én van Jane Austen, dus ja, er liggen hier weer wat boeken op me te wachten! En zo kwam ik bij mijn kerstsok uit, ik vroeg me af hoe Jane haar Kerst zou hebben gevierd en heb daar maar een eigen draai aan gegeven. Van satijn een kerstsok geknipt en deze versierd met kant, de bloemen zijn ook weer zelf gemaakt volgens deze techniek. De afbeelding komt uit één van mijn boeken, heb deze eerst ingescand, op transferpapier uitgeprint en vervolgens op een stukje katoen gestreken. Fijne Kerst, Miss Austen!

Those who follow my blog know that I'm a huge Jane Austen fan. Some new books were recently published, "The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen" (Lindsay Ashford) and "Death comes to Pemberley" (P.D. James). I love detectives/thrillers AND Jane Austen, so there we have it, I've got a few books waiting to be read! Why the stocking? I was wondering how Jane would have celebrated her Christmases and so I allowed myself to give it my own twist. I cut out a stocking from satin and embellished it with lace; the flowers are also handmade according to this technique. I found this image in one of my books, scanned it first, printed it onto transfer paper and ironed it on a piece of cotton. Merry Christmas, Miss Austen!

Ben uiteraard meteen volgster geworden ;-) Tussen de middag kwam ik thuis om te lunchen en wat lag er op mij te wachten? Deze prachtige kaart die Jacira voor mij heeft gemaakt, vinden jullie 'm niet geweldig!! Nogmaals hartelijk dank meisje!

Tutorial bloemen van zijde/organza - Tutorial flowers of silk/organza

Bedankt voor jullie leuke reacties op m'n bloemen, ik heb voor jullie een tutorial gemaakt zodat jullie ze zelf ook kunnen gaan maken! Je kunt er organza, zijde of voeringsstof voor gebruiken, tenminste, dat zijn de stoffen die ik zelf heb uitgeprobeerd. Experimenteer er gewoon op los zou ik zeggen, wie weet wat voor effect te krijgt! Omdat ik geen filmcamera heb, heb ik er een fototutorial van gemaakt:
Thanks for your wonderful reactions to my flowers, I made a tutorial for you so that you can start making these as well! You can use organza, silk or lining fabric, at least, those are the materials that I've put to the test. Why not experiment a little, who knows what the effects will be! Since I haven't got a handycam I made a photo tutorial:

Perfecte cirkels krijg je bijv. met je Spellbinders, ik heb de scallop gebruikt omdat dit de enige ronde vorm in verschillende maten is die ik heb ;-)

You need to cut out some circles, I used my scallop Spellbinders, the only round die I have in different sizes ;-)

Maak kleine knipjes - Make small cuts:

Na het knippen zien de cirkels er zo ongeveer uit - After cutting the circles look like this:

En dan komt het leuke gedeelte, het vormen van de bloemen! - And here comes the fun part, shaping the flowers!:

Hou ieder blaadje boven het theelichtje en let op dat je je vingers niet verbrandt! De blaadjes gaan nu opkrullen; het is niet erg dat de randjes een beetje "verbranden", dit geeft juist de gewenste vintage look:

Hold each petal over the tea light, don't burn your fingers! The petals will start curling up now, don't worry about "burnt" edges, they will give you that desired vintage look:

Wanneer je alleen de kleine cirkels gebruikt, blijven de bloemen ook klein, hoe meer blaadjes je gebruikt, des te voller dat je bloemen worden - If you only use the small circles, you will have small flowers; the more petals you use, the more body your flowers will have:

Het eindresultaat (je kunt de bloemen versieren met een knoop, ander klein bloemetje o.i.d.) The result (you can embellish your flowers with a button, other tiny flowers e.g.):

Flower Power Boekenleggers - Flower Power Bookmarks

Soms krijg je een idee van de meest rare items, in mijn geval was dat een elastiekje voor in m'n haren. Ik was een beetje aan het spelen met m'n haar, wel of geen staart en toen bedacht ik opeens dat het misschien wel leuk zou zijn om dit in het groot te gaan maken. En wat zou ik er dan mee kunnen doen? De meesten van jullie weten inmiddels vast wel dat ik gék ben van lezen en boeken en tja, dan is één en één gauw bij elkaar opgeteld! Het zijn dus bloemen-boekenleggers geworden. En dan voor elk thema weer iets anders! De bloemen zijn weer gemaakt van zijde. Ik zal zo snel mogelijk een tutorial maken, omdat er al eerder vragen over zijn geweest, goed? Wordt vervolgd!
Sometimes the funniest of items can be a source of inspiration; in my case it was an elastic hairband. I was fooling around with my hair, should I have a ponytail or not? And then it suddenly hit me: it might be fun making big hairbands. But what would I be able to do with them? Most of you probably know that I'm addicted to reading and books, so here they are: flower bookmarks! And for every kind of book a different one! I made the flowers of silk again. A tutorial will follow asap, because I've had several people asking me how to make them. Stay tuned!

Ik kan één van mijn favoriete schrijfsters, Jane Austen, natuurlijk niet overslaan, dus bij al haar boeken past de paarse of groene boekenlegger. Het elastiek was gewoon wit en heb ik met distress inkt gekleurd. I couldn't resist skipping one of my favourite authors, Jane Austen, so all of her novels can take the purple or green bookmark. The elastic band was plain white and so I coloured it with distress ink.

De afbeelding van Jane Austen heb ik op fotopapier geprint en op maat geknipt, deze in de knoop gelegd en met Glossy Accents bewerkt. In het begin is het nog een beetje melkachtig, maar het wordt al gauw glanzend. Wel goed laten drogen!! I printed the image of Jane Austen on glossy photo paper and cut down to size, laid it inside the button and added Glossy Accents. In the beginning it looks a bit milky, but it will soon get glossy. Let dry properly!

En deze is dan bijvoorbeeld voor de lichte zomerse boeken! And this one could be used for light summer reading, e.g. chicklits!
