Plain and simple

Wat? Ja, vandaag eens een simpele kaart. Ik zie soms zulke mooie CAS-kaarten voorbij komen dat ik me daar ook eens aan wilde wagen. Niet dat me dat bijster goed afgaat, want ik mis toch altijd de tierlantijntjes, vandaar dat die swirl ook niet mocht ontbreken ;-)
What? Yes, today I'd like to show you a plain and simple card. I sometimes see these fine CAS cards and though I'd try to make one as well. Not that I've succeeded, mind you, for somehow I always need to add all kinds of details, hence the swirl ;-)

Maar ja, toen had ik mijn kaart af en vond het toch nog maar kaal allemaal ;-) En omdat Marie Antoinette toch nog haar opwachting moest maken op een ander bal, heb ik voor haar maar deze halsband gemaakt van kant en band:

But when I had finished my card, I was still not pleased, for it all seemed so 'naked' ;-) And since Marie Antoinette had to appear at another ball, I made her this necklace from lace and ribbons:

 Ze kan 'm natuurlijk ook als armband dragen, ja, je weet hoe dat gaat bij vrouwen hè? Zo grillig als wat ;-)
Of course she can also wear it as a cuff, oh well, you know what women are like... as fickle as the weather ;-)

Having A Ball With Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette is helemaal klaar voor het bal. Haar hofdame heeft zojuist de laatste hand gelegd aan het zijden handtasje van Hoge Haarheid, eh, ik bedoel Hare Hoogheid en ook de balboekjes zijn voorbereid. Zijde, kant, band en pailletjes, een armbandje en ornamentjes van respectievelijk vriendinnetjes Ros en Odetta zijn allemaal verwerkt in dit tasje dat met de hand is genaaid. 
Marie Antoinette is completely prepared for the ball. Her lady in waiting has just completed her Royal Hairness's, uh, I mean her Royal Highness's silk handbag and the ball dance cards have all been issued as well. Silk, ribbons, lace, sequins, a bracelet and ornaments (gifts from both my dear friends Ros and Odetta) have all been hand sewn into this purse. 

 Op de balboekjes heb ik de volgende teksten geprint met het lettertype "1610 Cancellaresca"- The following texts were printed on the dance cards by using the 1610 Cancellaresca font:

Verder kreeg ik van verschillende mensen de vraag hoe ik mijn vorige kaart heb gemaakt, de slider-easel card. Ik heb voor jullie even een hele simpele tekening gemaakt, hoop dat het zo duidelijk genoeg is, zo niet, dan roep maar weer hoor!

A Rose Garden...

Ik was achterin de tuin wat bloemen aan het plukken om op vaas te zetten, 3 x raden wie ik daar ook tegenkwam, ja ja, onze eigen Marie Antoinette ;-) Ik zeg, meid, wat leuk dat je langs komt! Heb je zin in thee met cake erbij, ach ja, zegt ze, 'let us eat cake', waarom niet. Afijn, we zitten gezellig te keuvelen, heb ik haar meteen gevraagd om even te poseren voor de verjaardagskaart voor mijn vriendin, staat ze er niet elegant op? Het prachtige romantische, bloemrijke papier van First Edition (Floral Pavilion) paste perfect bij haar. Behind the Mask of Marie Antoinette

Wat spannend moet dat vroeger zijn geweest! Naar een bal masqué, je mooiste jurk aan en daarbij een passend masker. Goed, die pracht en praal is niet meer, maar wij hebben hier in het zuiden des lands nog altijd Carnaval ;-) Dus mochten jullie iemand op straat tegen komen met dit masker op, dan ben ik dat hi hi!! Ik heb een masker uitgeknipt uit stevig wit karton en daar roze kant overheen geplakt, de randen met parelband afgezet en bij een Marie Antoinette masker mogen de veren en prachtige swirls natuurlijk niet ontbreken. Fijne carnaval gewenst voor de echte vierders!!
Must have been really exciting way back, being invited to a masquerade ball, getting to wear your most beautiful dress and the right mask. Alas, those days of splendour and pompous luxury are long gone, but we Dutch (at least the southerners of our country) get to celebrate Carnival (Mardi Gras)! So if by any chance you see someone out there in the streets wearing this mask it's me, LOL! From white cardboard I cut out a mask and applied pink lace all over it and attached pearl ribbons. And a Marie Antoinette mask obviously needs the abundance of feathers and swirls. Happy Carnival to those celebrating!!

A Marie Antoinette Christmas

Zijn jullie al klaar voor de Kerst? De kerstkaarten allemaal de deur uit en het huis gezellig versierd? Kan er niets aan doen, maar ik vind dit één van de mooiste tijden van het jaar, de geur van kaneel, glühwein, kaarsjes aan (al branden die bij ons zo'n beetje het hele jaar door) en natuurlijk toch ieder jaar proberen om weer iets anders te verzinnen als versiering. Ik ben dól op kerstsokken, misschien herinneren jullie je deze nog, van vorig jaar? Toen was bij mij het thema Jane Austen, dit jaar heb ik gekozen voor Marie Antoinette, het werd weer eens tijd voor haar ;-) Heb uit satijn een lange kous geknipt en tussen twee lagen satijn fiberfill gedaan voor de vulling. Daarna onder het naaimachine en toen kon het leuke werk beginnen: het versieren! Veel kant, veren, een zelfgemaakte bloem (tutorial vind je hier op mijn blog), een strik van manliefs overhemd (wie wat bewaart heeft wat hè?), parels, charms en witte bloemen van respectievelijk mijn vriendinnetjes Odetta en Sue.
En dan nog even een vraagje: mocht je dit lezen Sylvia dan wil ik je hartelijk bedanken voor je reactie op m'n vorige post, ik wou terugreageren maar had geen email-adres van je, noch was je blogprofiel toegankelijk.
Have you girls finished your Christmas preparations yet? All of your Christmas cards sent to your family and friends, your house wonderfully decorated? I can't help it, but I really love this time of the year, the wonderful smell of cinnamon, glühwein, candles (although we burn them nearly all year round). And every year I'm trying to create my own ornaments. I LOVE stockings, maybe you remember this one, from last year? When I made a Jane Austen style stocking? This year I thought I'd bring on Marie Antoinette, high time that I did ;-) I cut out a long stocking from satin and added fiberfill between two layers of satin. After stitching it up I could finally start the fun part: adding embellishments! Lots of lace, feathers, a DIY flower (you can find my tutorial here), a lovely white ribbon of my DH's shirt (it's a good thing not to throw away things too easily!), some pearls, charms and white flowers from my sweet friends Odetta and Sue.

Cards For Friends

Ik vind het enig om kaarten en post te ontvangen, maar misschien nóg wel leuker dan dat is om vrienden te verblijden met een zelfgemaakt kaartje ;-) Hier enkele dingetjes die ik voor hen heb gemaakt met het prachtige papier van Prima Marketing (Tea-Thyme), dat uiteraard verkrijgbaar is bij My Crafty Heart. De kaart hiernaast heb ik voor Chantal gemaakt, die was voor haar verjaardag afgelopen zaterdag. Het Marie Antoinette hangertje was een cadeautje van m'n vriendin Odetta. Heb een soort flapkaart gemaakt met daarin een tag. De afbeelding van Marie is van Deviant Art (Mess Muddle And Fun).
I love receiving happy mail, I'd be lying if I said I didn't! But what I love best is to make my friends happy by sending them homemade creations ;-) Here are some things I made for some of my friends using the gorgeous paper of Prima Marketing (Tea-Thyme), which is available at My Crafty Heart. I made this card for Chantal's birthday last Saturday. Dit pizzadoosje met lekkere inhoud heb ik al enkele weken geleden naar Odetta gestuurd, uiteraard is die allang de soldaat gemaakt ha ha ha! Heb er op het papier een dressform gestempeld en ingekleurd met Derwent Coloursoft potloden:

This pizzabox with scrummy contents (chocolate!) was sent to Odetta some weeks ago; of course it's soooooo empty now, lol! I stamped a dressform onto the paper and coloured the image with Derwent Coloursoft pencils:

En deze deurhanger was bestemd voor Marie - and this doorhanger found a new owner, Marie:

Maar er is ook nog happy mail van Alenka, helemaal uit Rusland! Deze prachtige, handgemaakte pop heb ik bij haar gewonnen. Alenka maakt zulke mooie poppen, ga maar eens een kijkje bij haar nemen. Nogmaals onwijs bedankt!

And then there's also this happy mail, Alenka sent me this beautifully handmade doll all the way from Russia! Alenka makes such gorgeous dolls, why not go and have a look. Thanks again dear friend!

Marie Antoinette's Love Letter

Wat is een leven zonder romantiek? Ook al weten we allemaal hoe het leven van Marie Antoinette is geëindigd, we weten dat ook zij een romantisch leven heeft gehad. Ik heb een liefdesbrieventasje gemaakt van katoen canvas, helemaal met de hand genaaid. De satijnen bloem is gemaakt volgens mijn tutorial die jullie hier kunnen vinden. Wat verschillende kantjes en parels maken het tasje verder af. Maar nou zou ik bijna het belangrijkste vergeten, de afbeelding zelf! Ik heb in Photoshop een collage gemaakt van diverse afbeeldingen, de tekst "Paris 1784" is er met het lettertype Penman Script op gezet, ook voor de liefdesbrief zelf heb ik dit lettertype gebruikt. Daarna het canvas 'gewoon' door de printer gehaald. Mochten jullie trouwens deze afbeelding graag willen hebben, stuur me dan een mailtje.
What's life without romance? Even though we all know how Marie Antoinette's life ended, we also know that she knew a romantic life, too. I made a love letter pouch out of burlap, sewn by hand. I made the satin flower according to my tutorial that you can find here. Some lace and pearls for further embellishing. But I would almost forget the most important thing, the image itself ;-) I made a collage in Photoshop with several images, I used the font Penman Script for both the text "Paris 1784" and the love letter. I then printed the image directly onto the burlap. Should you wish to use this collage, too, please drop me a line and I'll send it to you.

Marie Antoinette also loves to read "Alice in Wonderland"

Iedereen heeft wel een dominodoosje in de kast staan waar al dan niet mee wordt gespeeld, nou, ik ben er vanmorgen op een andere manier mee gaan spelen. Mijn lieve vriendin Jacira wist me te vertellen dat er een challenge met het thema Marie Antoinette was bij Daring Cardmakers en ja, ik had daar wel oren naar. Heb de houten (oorspronkelijk zwarte) dominostenen met gouden acrylverf geschilderd en ben lekker aan het pimpen geslagen. Het is een heel gepriegel om dit soort kleine boekjes te maken, want ja, die stenen zijn maar een goede 2 x 4 cm! Op de voorzijde nog een cameo bevestigd en wat strass-steentjes erbij en het Marie Antoinette boekje is klaar!
We probably all have a domino box somewhere in one of our cupboards. Some of you will actually play this game, I started playing with the dominoes in a different way this morning. My dear friend Jacira told me about  the Marie Antoinette challenge over at Daring Cardmakers and I wanted to participate. I've painted the originally black dominoes gold (with acrylic paint) and started embellishing. It's quite a lot of fussy work since the dominoes only measure about 2x4 cms! I added a cameo to the front and some gemstones and here's my Marie Antoinette booklet:

Ja, en weet je wat het dan is? Dan zie je nog zoveel stenen meer liggen, dus ik dacht ach, het gaat redelijk vlot, ik maak er gewoon nog ééntje bij, maar dan over Alice in Wonderland ;-) Hier is het boekje gesloten, heb er diverse charms op geplakt. Het konijn is al weggerend, want die is véél te laat!

And you know what? You see all of those black dominoes and there you go again, I decided to make another booklet, but this once is about Alice in Wonderland ;-) Here's the closed booklet, I've added several charms to the front. The rabbit's already gone, for he's waaaaaaaaaaay too late already!!

Sinterklaas is weer in ons land! En dat betekent dat we onze schoen weer mogen zetten in de hoop dat er iets lekkers of leuks in valt! En natúúrlijk geloof ik nog in de Sint ;-) Zing alle liedjes mee op straat, ben dol op kruidnoten en Chai thee. Omdat het schoentjestijd is, heb ik een paar Marie Antoinette schoentjes gemaakt. Bedankt voor jullie bezoek!
St. Nicholas is visiting our country again! Which means we get to put our empty shoe nearby the chimney, hoping that something nice or delicious drops into it! And it goes without saying that I still strongly believe in St. Nick :-) I just love to sing along (there are many songs about St. Nick), I'm a huge fan of ginger nuts and Spicy Chai tea. Since it's "shoe time" over here, I made a couple of Marie Antoinette shoes to celebrate this feast. Thanks for visiting!
