Love Birds

Afgelopen vrijdag sinds lange tijd weer eens een dag vrij gehad, heb heerlijk gewinkeld met een vriendin van me en ik durf het bijna niet te zeggen, maar we hebben onszelf verwend met ieder een paar nieuwe laarzen (!) Lekker bijgekletst en de paraplu gedeeld, samen geluncht en gedineerd. Was gewoon een heerlijke dag! Met sommige vriendinnen ga je naar de film of doe je iets anders leuks (zoals winkelen), met anderen kun je de meest diepzinnige gesprekken hebben en met je blogvriendinnen deel je weer heel andere dingen, maar één ding blijft: vriendschap. Ik kwam een oud notitieboek tegen en besloot deze maar eens te versieren. Het leek me gaaf om hier dierbare herinneringen aan vrienden in op te schrijven. Een tijdje geleden had ik Marianne Design benaderd om Designer for a Day te mogen zijn en onlangs kreeg ik de Creatable met de vogeltjes toegestuurd om iets mee te maken. Nou, dit is het geworden. Het papier is overigens ook van MD. De metalen frame om de quote is een oud fotolijstje. Het parasolletje is mbv een stans van Nellie Snellen gemaakt. Marianne nogmaals hartelijk dank voor de stans en je award!!

It's been quite a while since my last day off, so I was totally happy to be able to go shopping again last Friday with a friend. I'm almost too afraid to confess, but we spoilt ourselves rotten and both bought ourselves a new pair of boots (!) It was lovely chatting and sharing our umbrella, having lunch and dinner together. Just a wonderful day! With some friends you go to the cinema or do something else (like shopping), with others you can be most philosophical and with your blog buddies you share different things, but one thing is the same: friendship. I came across an old notebook and decided to embellish it. I thought it would be nice to write down precious memories regarding friends. Some time ago I contacted  Marianne Design to become Designer for a Day and recently I became the lucky recipient of the Creatable with birds. Here's what I made. Papers are MD, too. The metal frame around the quote is an old picture frame. I made the little parasol with a Nellie Snellen die. Marianne thanks again for the die and your award!!

Vandaag wil ik een paar dingen met jullie delen, allereerst wil ik Lynne van Adorn heel hartelijk bedanken voor deze prachtige tag/boekenlegger; heeft ze speciaal voor mij gemaakt omdat ze weet dat ik zo dol op Jane Austen ben. Superlief! Vinden jullie die stempel niet geweldig?? 
Today I have a couple of things to share with you; first of all I'd like to thank Lynne of Adorn for this gorgeous tag/bookmark; she made this especially for me, she knows about my being so fond of Jane Austen. Super sweet! Don't you just love this stamp??
Afgelopen zondag weer eens iets lekkers gebakken, een citroencake, maar dan in een andere vorm! Toen ik deze vorm zag, was ik verkocht, of beter gezegd, die vorm dan! En ja, ik moet het nu maar in het openbaar bekennen: ik ben schoenverslaafd... Lean, nou niet lachen hè :-) Zó onwijs leuk om een schoen op tafel te mogen zetten!!

Last Sunday I baked a lemon cake, but this time I used a different shape! When I saw this baking mould I immediately tripped over it! And ok, let's bring it out into the open: I'm a shoe addict... Lean, stop laughing :-) It's awesome to place a shoe on the table and being allowed to do so!

 Ik heb echter ook nog een kaart om te laten zien; mijn vriendin, die zeer reislustig is en bij wijze van spreken uit haar koffer leeft, is morgen jarig. Deze kaart past precies bij haar. Ik heb op linnen gestempeld (o.a. 7 Gypsies, Inkadinkado en Stampinback), heb met nepleer de randen van de kofferkaart gemaakt. De vrouwenkopjes zijn gestanst met Marianne Design Creatables (Lady Charleston en Lady Elegant). Het handvat heb ik gemaakt m.b.v. Spellbinders Labels.

I also have a card to show you; my friend, who is extremely fond of travelling and practically lives out of her suitcase, is celebrating her birthday tomorrow. This suitcase card is right up her alley. I stamped on linnen (a.o. 7 Gypsies, Inkadinkado and Stampinback), made the frame with faux leather. The women's heads are die cuts (Marianne Design Creatables Lady Charleston and Lady Elegant). Basis of this card is regular cardstock. The handle was made with Spellbinders Labels.

Paris city of love

Pas weer eens genoten van de film "Les Liaisons Dangereuses", met die voortreffelijke Glenn Close en de geniale John Malkovich. Op zulke momenten heb ik acuut zin om naar Parijs af te reizen! Maar voorlopig moet ik de romantiek maar even nabootsen met een Eiffeltorentje van een cm. of 10. Ik heb geen idee welk papier ik hiervoor heb gebruikt eerlijk gezegd, omdat het maar een klein stukje was dat ik nog had liggen. Het liefdespaartje is een poezieplaatje dat misschien wel een jaar of 20 oud is (zo niet langer). De Eiffeltoren heb ik weer met behulp van dezelfde bouwplaat gemaakt waar ik maanden geleden ook mijn schoen mee heb gemaakt. Het hart is gestempeld met Inkadinkado. Vive la France!

I recently enjoyed the movie "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" again, with the amazing Glenn Close and genius John Malkovich. Those moments make me want to travel to Paris! But for the time being I have to make do with a fake romantic Eiffeltower of approx. 10 cm. I really don't know which DP I used, to be honest because it was just a small piece that was lying around. The image of the romantic couple is probably at least 20 years old (if not older). I made the Eiffeltower with the same template that I used for my Paris shoe. I stamped the heart with Inkadinkado. Vive la France!

A room without books is like a body without a soul

Op de één of andere manier is deze quote van Cicero me altijd bijgebleven (overigens nagenoeg het enige van die man ;-) Je kent ongetwijfeld de vraag: "wat zou je meenemen naar een onbewoond eiland?" Nou, buiten m'n eigen lieve mannetje zouden dat zéker een hele stapel boeken zijn! Ik zou niet buiten lezen kunnen, heerlijk om even in een andere huid of tijd te kruipen of je te verdiepen in één of ander specialistisch onderwerp. Ik lees ook iedere keer een ander soort boek, zal dus nooit twee psychologische romans achter elkaar lezen bijvoorbeeld. Ik was van de week dus weer aan een nieuw boek begonnen en vond het wel leuk om wat boekenleggers te maken. En dan ben je bezig, moet je tussendoor de was ophangen en dan denk je "hé, zal ik eens iets met wasknijpers gaan doen?". Zo heb ik een paar cadeausetjes voor mijn vriendinnen gemaakt, hopelijk vinden ze ze leuk! Het papier is van Melissa Frances, de foto's zijn van het internet. De stempels zijn van Tim Holtz, ik heb expres niet te hard gestempeld zodat je een wat vage afdruk krijgt. Bedankt voor jullie bezoek dames!

Somehow this Cicero quote never quite left my mind (which is just about all I can remember of him ;-) You probably all know the famous question: "What would you bring along to an unknown island?" Well, apart from my DH it would certainly be a stack of books! I just couldn't live without books, it's marvellous to be able to get into someone else's skin or era, or just to find out more about some specialist subject. I always read different books, I'll never read two psychological novels in a row for example. Last week I started a new book and I thought it would be fun to make a few bookmarks. So I was having a go at those, had to hang the laundry and saw the clothes pins upon which I decided to make a couple of gift sets for my friends. Hope they like them! Papers are Melissa Frances, the pictures are from the internet. The stamps are Tim Holtz; I only stamped quite softly, I didn't want to have a crisp image, but rather shabby/vague instead. Ahoy Matey!!

Mijn neef heeft zich de afgelopen zomer een bootje aangeschaft, geen wonder als je bedenkt dat je prachtig aan het water woont! Volgende week is hij jarig en daarom krijgt hij van mij een stevig anker om z'n bootje goed vast te leggen :-) Met een prachtige dame aan boord moet het toch goed toeven op het water zijn! De dame is overigens een kleurplaat van het internet en ik heb haar ingekleurd met distress inkt. Het anker heb ik uitgeknipt van een plaatje van het internet. De knopen staan symbool voor de snelheid van het bootje :-) Hijs de zeilen!!!

My cousin has purchased a boat this summer, which is no wonder, considering that he lives on the waterfront! Next week he'll be celebrating his birthday, and so I've made him a steady anchor to secure his boat with :-) With a lovely lady on board it must be quite a thrill to sail the waters! The sailor girl is a colouring page from the internet and I coloured her with distress inks. I cut the anchor myself, using a shape I found on the internet. The buttons symbolise the speed of the boat (in dutch 'knopen' means both buttons and knots). Hoist the sails!!!

Home SWEET Home...

M'n nichtje Gwynn is binnenkort jarig en wordt dan 9. Ik zat op een paar gedachten te hinken voor een verjaardagskaart, ze houdt nl. verschrikkelijk van lezen en heeft al een hele aardige collectie boeken bij elkaar verzameld (waar ik als tante dan weer heel blij van word, want ja, ook leesfanaat hè?). Dus ik dacht in eerste instantie om een boek te maken, maar ja, die had ik al eens gemaakt, dus heb ik voor fantasiehuisjes gekozen. Ze is dol op Littlest Pet Shop, houdt erg van die kleurtjes en ik weet niet of jullie weten hoe die beestjes leven? Maar ze wonen in de leukste huisjes! Ik heb cupcake-huisjes gemaakt, hoog in de bomen (oké, mijn boom is plat, maar ja, fantasie hè?) en daar wonen al die grappige beestjes! De vorm van de cupcake heb ik nagemaakt van een bestaand doosje dat ik hier had liggen (ik verzamel wel meer leuke doosjes die ik eventueel nog kan gebruiken). Oh ja, het papier is van Heidi Grace! Bedankt voor het kijken!

My niece Gwynn is celebrating her birthday next week and turns 9. I had a couple of ideas for her, she's an avid reader and has quite a collection of books in her room (which makes me, her auntie, very happy indeed, being such a fan of books myself!). So first I wanted to make her a book card, but I'd already done that, so I decided upon these fantasy houses instead. She loves Littlest Pet Shop, adores the colours and have you seen where these cute little animals live? They just have the cutest of houses! So I made cupcake tree houses (okay, my trees are flat, hey, it's a fantasy world, remember?) I copied the shape of the cupcakes from a box that was lying here (I stash away all kinds of boxes that might come in handy one day ;-) Oh yes, papers are Heidi Grace! Thanks for watching!

Bloemen plukken - Flower picking

Heb voor dit cadeausetje weer gekozen voor een afbeelding van Sarah Kay, vind ze eerlijk gezegd éindeloos mooier dan Magnolia! (ook al gebruik ik ze af en toe ook wel hoor). Het papier is van Eline's Huis. Ik heb Sarah ingekleurd met Derwent Coloursoft, is samen met distress ink toch wel mijn favoriete manier van inkleuren. Dit is voor mijn vriendin gemaakt, ze heeft het inmiddels van me gekregen dus kan ik het nu rustig laten zien. Doen jullie dat ook zo graag? Bloemen plukken? Ik heb het altijd leuk gevonden (ook in onze eigen tuin hoor, ha ha ha!!). Hoort helemaal bij de zomer vind ik; we hebben dan ook bijna altijd verse bloemen in huis en op de tuintafel staan. Gewoon een paar takken hortensia's of een hoop van die kleine glaasjes met gerbera's en gipskruid. De grote roos op het doosje is gemaakt met de Tim Holtz die Tattered Florals. En de rand onderaan de kaart is gemaakt met een pons van Martha Stewart (Double Edge pons). Pluk ze en bedankt voor het kijken!

For this gift set I chose another image of Sarah Kay; to be honest I prefer them to Magnolia! (although I use these, too, every now and then). Papers are Eline's Huis. I coloured Sarah with Derwent Coloursoft, these pencils are my favourite colouring media together with distress inks. I made this set for my friend; she has already seen it, so I can easily post about it. Don't you just love it? Picking flowers? I've always enjoyed it (even in our own garden, LOL!) and to me it's part of the summer season. Most of the time we keep fresh flowers in our living room and on the terrace table as well. Quite often just a few branches of hydrangea or a couple of tiny vases with gerbera daisies and gypsophila. By the way, the large rose on the box was made with the Tim Holtz die Tattered Florals. And the punched bottom of the card was made with the Double Edge Punch of Martha Stewart. Happy picking and thanks for watching!

A little bird told me

"Hallo meisje", zei het gekooide vogeltje. "Ik wist niet dat jij kon praten, ik heb je alleen nog maar horen fluiten", antwoordde het meisje verbaasd. "Dat komt omdat wij op dit moment allebei dezelfde wens hebben, jij wil graag in de tuin spelen en ik wil de wereld zó graag eens van de andere kant bekijken. Ik zit de hele dag opgesloten in m'n kooitje", besloot het vogeltje treurig. Het meisje had medelijden met het vogeltje en besloot om met haar nieuwe vriendje de tuin in te gaan om samen te gaan spelen in alle vrijheid. Ze maakte het kooitje open en meteen vloog het vogeltje de tuin in met de sleutel aan z'n staart. Hij vloog z'n vrijheid tegemoet. "Oh oh", dacht het meisje, "wat heb ik nu weer gedaan?" Maar ze had geen spijt, ze had er een nieuw speelvriendje bij die net als zij vrij en blij kon leven.

"Hello girl", said the caged little bird. "I didn't know that you were able to talk, I only ever heard you whistling", replied the girl. "That's because at this very moment we have exactly the same wish, you are eager to play in the garden and I'm dying to look at the world from a different angle. I'm locked up in my cage all day", the bird retorted with a sad look on its face. The girl felt sorry for the little bird and decided to go and play in the garden with her new playmate. She opened the cage and the little bird immediately flew towards its freedom, with the key dangling from its tail. "Oh oh", the girl thought, "what have I done?" But she had no regrets, she had just made a new friend who was happy to live a free life, too.

Feestelijk gekleed - Dressed up for the party?

Vandaag is m'n dierbare vriendin Stella jarig! En zo'n lieve schat mag wel in het zonnetje worden gezet natuurlijk, dus nogmaals: van harte proficiat!!! Omdat ze een enórme liefhebber van blauw is, heb ik voor haar natuurlijk een kaart in die kleur gemaakt, nou ja, kaart, ik heb er maar een feestelijk corset van gemaakt. Gewoon uit de hand getekend en 2x uitgeknipt (het is een pocket-kaart). 

Today my dear friend Stella is celebrating her birthday! And I'd like to put such a dearie in the spotlights! So here we go again: Happy Birthday! She's a huge fan of blue, so I made her a card in blue, well, actually it's not a card, it's a party corset. I simply made my own drawing and turned it into a pocket card.

En toen was ik zó lekker bezig, toen heb ik er nog maar ééntje gemaakt voor mijn schoonzus die morgen jarig is ;-) Op het hart staan de felicitaties geschreven. De bloemen zijn gemaakt met de retroponsen. 
And I was having so much fun making it, so I decided to make another one for my sister-in-law whose birthday will be tomorrow ;-) On the heart the birthday wishes are written. The flowers were made with the retro punches.

Bij een verjaardag hoort ook een cadeautje, dus dit speldenkussen heb ik ook voor Stella gemaakt. Hoop dat je een onwijs leuke dag hebt!! Het is gemaakt van een soort jute en is gevuld met fiberfill. De afbeelding heb ik (gespiegeld) op transferpapier geprint. Birthdays never go without presents, so I made this pincushion for Stella as well. Really hope that your day will be remarkably special!! It is made of some kind of jute and I filled up the pocket with fiberfill. The image was printed on transfer paper (mirrored).

Tropische hitte - Tropical heat

Ben er vanochtend extra vroeg uit gegaan, heb heerlijk zitten freubelen vanochtend. Want ik heb écht zin om bijtijds buiten te gaan zitten in het zonnetje met een fijn boek erbij, een kan gevuld met water, limoen, komkommer en citroenmelisse. Een luie stoel is dan wel zo prettig, dus heb ik die maar gemaakt van karton; het is een miniatuurtje van ongeveer 10 cm de parasol is met behulp van een mal van Nellie Snellen gemaakt (van cardstock en stof). Leesvoer, beetje chick lit dit keer (het is een echt miniboekje, gemaakt van nepleer, alleen de afbeelding komt van het internet) het is per slot van rekening zomer! Oef! Wakker worden!! Dromen zijn bedrog! Ha! Dat dacht je! Ik heb m'n stoel immers nog? Die moet wél wachten op betere tijden, maar dat komt wel (zei ze vol vertrouwen). Ach, 'n beetje regen is goed voor de tuin zullen we maar zeggen!

I got out quite early this morning, cooped up inside my craft room. I really want to go sit outside to enjoy the sun, along with a nice book, fill up a can of water with lime, cucumber and lemon balm. A lazy chair would be quite comfortable, shall I make one? It turned out to be a carton miniature of approx. 10 cm, the parasol was made with a Nellie Snellen die (out of cardstock and fabric). Light summer reading (I made the booklet, too, used some faux leather, the image is from the internet), chick lit this time, it's summer after all! Ouch! Wake up! Keep on dreaming! Ha! You wish! I still have my chair? It will have to wait for those lazy summer days (she said full of confidence). Oh well, a drop of rain does the garden good (does that count for many drops of rain, too, LOL!)

Ik ben zo'n beetje opgegroeid met o.a. Sarah Kay en blijf deze afbeeldingen prachtig vinden. Vond het dan ook tijd worden voor een (ezel)kaartje (met dit liefdespaartje). De afbeelding is ingekleurd met distress inkt, het papier is van Webster's Pages. Fijn weekend allemaal!!

I kind of grew up with Sarah Kay and I still have a great fondness for these images. It was about time I made a(n) (easel)card with this love couple. I coloured the image with distress ink, papers are Webster's Pages. Enjoy your weekend!!

Wat voor verjaardagskaart maak je voor een man die erg dol is op vogels en als bijnaam "The King" heeft? Juist ja, inderdaad geen kaart met een vogel erop ha ha ha!! Maar wél ééntje waar muziek uit komt, The Tweet Song! Voor deze kaart heb ik een afbeelding van een LP gedownload van het internet en vervolgens helemaal bewerkt in Photoshop, lang leve dit programma! De tickets zijn gemaakt met stempels van Inkadinkado. De rockstar is een afbeelding van Kenny K.

What kind of birthday card do you make for a man who's  very fond of birds AND who has the nickname "The King"? Right, a card with no birds on it, LOL! Let's just say the birds sing their song, The Tweet Song! For this card I downloaded a record from the internet and altered it digitally in Photoshop, I LOVE this program! The tickets were made with Inkadinkado stamps. The rockstar is a Kenny K image.

Thank you dear friends!

Last Friday I was the lucky recipient of TWO parcels!! Sent to me by my dear friends Jacira and Cindy. They're both not only absolutely talented crafters, but  wonderful persons and friends. I'm happy to know you girls! And I'd like to thank you again for sending me these gorgeous gifts, am I not spoilt rotten?
This was the first parcel to arrive and it's this fabulous altered notebook from Cindy, don't you just love it? Just look at those dressforms! Sigh!

 And then later that day this stunning parcel from Jacira arrived, just look at all the gorgeous goodies she's put inside, her wonderfully made theatre card (which I loved immediately when I saw it on her blog but I didn't know that she sent it to little ol' me!, papers, crochet flowers and a superb ATC:

Franse Revolutie - French Revolution

Wat een saaie, regenachtige dag is voor de één, is een feestdag voor de ander: in Frankrijk wordt sinds jaar en dag 14 juli uitbundig gevierd, het is dé dag van de Franse Revolutie en dé dag waarop de Fransen geschiedenis zouden schrijven. Het einde was in zicht voor Marie Antoinette en haar Lodewijk XVI. Ze zijn weliswaar gevlucht, maar later opgepakt en de rest is geschiedenis. Ik stel me zo voor dat ze niet alleen samen een koets hebben gedeeld, maar ook een draagstoel. En die heb ik hier geprobeerd te maken. Ik heb een langwerpig doosje gemaakt voor de basis van de draagstoel, de 'ramen' zijn gestempeld en met goudpoeder geembossed. De draagarmen zijn rolletjes papier. Het rose kroontje is van K & Company. En de Franse lelie mag niet ontbreken, hét symbool immers van de Franse monarchie? Zal toch niet echt comfortabel zijn geweest, het reizen in zo'n schudstoel!
What would be a dull, rainy day for some, would be a day of celebration for others: July 14th is the French National Day, the Day of the French Revolution, today the French wrote history. The end was in sight for Marie Antoinette en her Louis XVI. They fled, but were captured nonetheless, the rest is history. They probably not only shared a carriage together, but a sedan chair as well. I tried to make one of those. I made a rectangular box, this is the base of the chair, stamped the windows and embossed them with gold embossing powder. The arms are rolled up pieces of paper, the pink crown is K & Company. Musn't forget the French lily, being the symbol of the French monarchy. Couldn't have been too comfortable, travelling in such a shaky carriage!
