Books Fall Open, You Fall In...

Hebben jullie dat nou ook? Dat je alles om je heen vergeet wanneer je een boek aan het lezen bent en echt hélemaal in het verhaal opgaat? Nou, zo vergaat het mij in elk geval. Ik verfilm een boek in m'n hoofd, zie scène voor scène voor me, zeker wanneer het goed beschreven is. Toen ik door mijn vintage-collectie aan het neuzen was, kwam ik een foto van Lily Elsie (een beroemde 19e eeuwse Engelse actrice) tegen mét een boek! Daar wou ik iets mee doen en deze canvas is het uiteindelijk geworden. Heb hier linnen voor gebruikt en hier ook de foto van Lily op geprint. Ik vind het juist zo mooi dat ze hier net even opkijkt, vandaar de quote...
Does the same go for you girls, too? That you tend to forget the entire world around you once you're in the midst of a good book? That you are so caught up in the story that you don't hear a thing anymore? Well, that's what it's like for me. I'm creating entire films in my mind, especially when the book is well written. Whilst browsing my vintage photo collection I came across this lovely photo of Lily Elsie (a famous 19th century British actress) with a book! I so wanted to use this photo and so I altered this canvas using mainly burlap on which I printed Lily's photo. I so love the fact that she has her eyes wide open whilst reading, hence this particular quote:

Hij is helaas niet overdraagbaar... Helemaal in haar zo kenmerkende romantische stijl. Ik durf hier niet te zeggen wat ze me schreef, want oef, daar kreeg ik toch wel een paar stevige rode wangen van zeg... Nogmaals heel hartelijk dank, je bent een schat! Ik ben supertrots and zeer vereerd!!

I'm not leaving you girls be yet, LOL! I'd also like to show you this precious and gorgeous award that Odetta from Somerset Garden has designed and given to me, don't you just love this? Unfortunately the award cannot be passed on... It's entirely in her own romantic style. I'm afraid to repeat what she wrote to me, because phew, to be honest I had a couple of really red hot cheeks... Thanks again dear friend!! I'm so proud and honoured!

Angels Are Never Too Distant To Hear You...

Vandaag is het precies 5 jaar geleden dat mijn dierbare vader stierf. Is het alweer zo lang geleden? Maar waarom voelt het dan als gisteren? Is het bewust of onbewust geweest dat ik met de afbeelding van een engel kom vandaag? Heb je ooit afgevraagd hoe jouw beschermengel eruit ziet en heet? Je hebt hem/haar vast wel ooit gehoord, als innerlijke stem? Gewoon op vertrouwen en naar luisteren... Ik heb haar gevonden bij Deviantart en ze is getekend door Red Priest Usada. Ik kreeg pas van Teresa van My Crafty Heart nieuwe stanzen van Memory Box toegestuurd, waaronder de kerstboom. Natuurlijk kun je de stans hiervoor gebruiken, maar ik heb hem gecombineerd met een andere stans, ook van Memory Box (een hoekornament) en heb uit witte cardstock 4 delen uitgestanst van elk en er deze sneeuwvlok/kerstster mee gemaakt. Ben zelf helemaal wég van deze stanzen, vind ze echt waanzinnig mooi om mee te werken. Het is toch net kant? Om het stanswerk beter tot z'n recht te laten komen, heb ik het geheel op blauwe cardstock geplaatst. De afbeelding is heel zacht ingekleurd met Derwent Coloursoft, wou het geheel een wat dromerige look meegeven. 
My darling father passed away 5 years ago today. It's hard to believe it's been 5 years already... But why does it feel like it was only yesterday... Why have I created something with an angel today, was it subconscious or unconscious? Have you ever wandered what your guardian angel looks like or is called? Undoubtedly you must have heard him/her at a certain point, as your inner voice maybe? Just trust your feeling and listen to those inner voices... I found the image of this angel at Deviantart and she was drawn by Red Priest Usada. Recently Teresa of My Crafty Heart sent me some new Memory Box dies to work with, among them this Christmas Tree. Of course you can use the die for this purpose only, I chose to combine it with another Memory Box die, the Snowflake Corner. From white cardstock I cut 4 pieces of each and made this snowflake/star with them. I absolutely adore these dies, they're super gorgeous and wonderful to work with! Doesn't this look like lace to you? In order to properly show you the diecuts I placed the whole on blue cardstock. I coloured the image very softly with Derwent Coloursoft, wanted to give the whole a bit of a dreamy look...

Deze fameuze quote van de geweldige schrijver Mark Twain, die overigens grossierde in ijzersterke oneliners, is me altijd bijgebleven en kwam weer naar boven toen ik bij Het Witte Luik een prachtig ornament van de hoge bi - je weet wel, zo'n fiets met een heel groot voorwiel en een heel klein achterwiel, zag. Zou Twain zo'n gepimpt dienblaadje in zijn schrijfkamer gehad hebben? Zou zomaar kunnen, ergens tussen al zijn papieren en schrijfsels... Over papier gesproken, ga eens een kijkje nemen bij My Crafty Heart, er zijn weer zúlke mooie paper pads bij gekomen, o.a. deze die ik hier heb gebruikt van Prima Marketing!
I've always remembered this famous quote by Mark Twain, who was renowned for his extremely powerful oneliners and remarkable quotes. His words came back to me when I saw a gorgeous penny-farthing ornament at Het Witte Luik, you know, a bicycle with a huge front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel. Do you think Twain would have had such an altered tray in his study? He might easily have, somewhere between all his papers and scribblings... Hot Summer Nights

Niet verwacht, toch nog gekomen: die lang verwachte, zwoele zomer! Heerlijk om de avonden buiten door te brengen en te genieten van meneer egel die 's avonds gaat stappen. Ik heb 'm al een bijnaam gegeven "Charles de Scharrel" ;-) En om de sfeer wat te versterken, heb ik een paar kleine glazen conservenpotjes voorzien van een mooi papiertje en ach, als je dan tóch bezig bent dan de waxinelichtjes zelf ook maar dan! En zo heb je snel een leuk cadeausetje gemaakt! We never expected it, did we? This long, hot summer! Don't you just love spending the evenings outdoors? We are enjoying Mr. Porcupine's company, he's always going out for diner in our garden when it's becoming dark. I've already given him a nickname "Prickly Charlie" ;-) And to enhance the atmosphere a bit, I've altered a couple of glass vegetable jars and put a nice piece of paper around them. Oh well, might as well embellish the tea lights themselves, too! An easily made gift set!

Guitar Goddess

Eergisteren was mijn nichtje Gwynn jarig en is alweer 10 jaar geworden. Ik weet nog als de dag van gisteren dat ze net geboren was, kleine meisjes worden gauw groot! Zo leuk om te zien hoe ze zich ontwikkelt tot een echte tiener al. Ze heeft een brede interesse en speelt zo ook gitaar. Het idee voor deze verjaardagskaart was dus al vrij snel geboren ;-) Uiteraard in haar favoriete kleuren en ook mijn nichtje houdt wel van bling bling, vast een genetische afwijking ;-) Heb met een paar stanzen geprobeerd om een gitaar na te bootsen. Bedankt voor het kijken, maak er een mooi weekend van!!

 The day before yesterday my niece Gwynn turned 10! I can still vividly remember the day she was born, little girls grow up so fast! And I really enjoy seeing her develop into a real teenager. She's got a wide variety of interests, guitar playing is one of them. So the idea for her birthday card came pretty quickly to me ;-) Of course in her favourite colours and with a dash of bling bling, must be a genetic defect ;-) I tried to use various dies to create a guitar. Little Girls, Big Dreams...

Ik was vanmorgen in een beetje dromerige mood toen ik deze kaart maakte met het schitterende romantische papier van Glitz Design. Zulke mooie, warme kleuren, daar moest ik gewoon wat mee doen. Misschien ben ik onbewust al een klein beetje afscheid aan het nemen van de zomer, overdag is het nog lekker buiten maar ´s avonds koelt het al behoorlijk snel af en de planten in de tuin krijgen langzamerhand ook een ander jasje aan, waarschijnlijk heb ik daarom voor deze tinten gekozen. Deze kaart gaat straks op de bus naar een goede blogvriendin van me, hoop dat-ie weer goed aankomt! 

I was in a dreamy mood this morning whilst making this card, using these gorgeous and superromantic papers of Glitz Design. Such fabulous, rich colours, I just wanted to work with those. Maybe unconsciously I´m already saying goodbye to summer, temperatures are still lovely during the day but in the evening it´s rapidly becoming colder. The plants in the garden are slowly putting on their other jackets, probably the reason why I chose these colours today. This card will be sent to a dear blog buddy of mine, hope it will  reach her doorstep real soon!

High Tea With Friends

Gisteren toch zo'n ontzettend leuke dag gehad! Ik heb nl. voor het eerst Odetta van Somerset Garden ontmoet, had haar uitgenodigd om samen een High Tea te doen. We hadden al een heel leuk en gezellig emailcontact, maar vanaf het moment dat we elkaar ontmoetten, was het net alsof we elkaar al járen kenden en hebben de hele dag heerlijk zitten klessebessen en lachen met elkaar. Het was een perfecte dag, we hadden heerlijk weer, het kon niet beter! 's avonds heeft mijn mannetje lekker voor ons gekookt, hij liet ons gewoon lekker doorbabbelen ;-) Het was kortom een dag met een gouden randje, nogmaals bedankt voor alles lieve Odetta!! Mwah!!

We've had such a wonderful day yesterday! I met Odetta from Somerset Garden for the first time; I had invited her to a High Tea. We've been emailing quite regularly, which was always so lovely, but from the moment we met it was as if we'd known each other for years and we simply couldn't stop chattering and laughing. It was an absolutely perfect day, the weather was lovely, it just couldn't be more perfect! In the evening my DH prepared us supper, he just allowed us to keep chattering ;-) It was just one of those golden days, thanks again for everything dear Odetta!! Mwah!!

Dit is de kaart die ik van Odetta kreeg - Here's the card Odetta made for me:

En dit is wat Odetta allemaal voor me meebracht, ik ben zwaar, zwaar verwend! Een theelicht, rozendoosje, theekopje met prachtige bloemen, een versierde zeep, stickers en een lavendelbuiltje, alles prachtig op elkaar afgestemd. Ik zei al tegen Odetta dat ze zó een decowinkel kan beginnen!

And this is what Odetta gave me, I am seriously spoilt rotten!! A tea light, teacup with beautiful flowers, an embellished soap, stickers and a lavendar bag, everything an absolutely beautiful match. I told Odetta to start her own deco store!

En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, kreeg ik van de week ook nog deze prachtige zelfgemaakte bloemen en stickpins die ik in de giveaway van Lee van Crafty Loops had gewonnen! Heel hartelijk dank nogmaals Lee, ik heb je prachtige stickpins in mijn Marie Antoinette kopje zitten!

Vintage Blues

Onlangs werd ik benaderd door een nieuwe volgster, de allerhartelijkste Marina, een Belgische die al jaren in Duitsland woont en werkt. Zij heeft een webwinkel waar ze heel trots op is en wilde mij per sé wat van die prachtige nieuwe roosjes van Marianne Design toesturen. Omdat ik haar banner op mijn blog heb verlinkt. Ik mocht zelfs mijn eigen kleur uitkiezen en ja, dan wordt het turquoise omdat dat nu eenmaal één van mijn favoriete kleurtjes is. Uiteraard heb ik haar beloofd hier meteen iets mee te maken en dit is het uiteindelijk geworden. Neem maar eens een kijkje in haar webwinkel, dat zal ze erg op prijs stellen! Nogmaals enorm bedankt lieve Marina voor deze beeldschone roosjes!
Recently I was approached by a new follower, the tremendously generous and kind Marina, a Belgian woman who has lived and worked in Germany for many years now. Angel Kisses

Er zijn momenten wanneer je iemand een engeltje wilt toesturen, gewoon om te laten weten dat je iemand lief vindt of omdat iemand een beschermengeltje kan gebruiken. Ik heb voor mijn zus, zwager en twee nichtjes een engeltjeskaart gemaakt om hen een veilige terugvlucht toe te wensen vanuit hun vakantiebestemming. En dit engeltje vond ik daarvoor perfect. De nieuwe paperpads van First Edition zijn zó mooi, ik heb dit prachtige papier hier dan ook meteen voor gebruikt! Dit kleine elfje vliegt graag in het bos en heeft daarom ook bladvleugeltjes.
There are moments when you would like to send someone a little angel, just to let that someone know that you love him/her or because someone can really use a guardian angel. I made this angel card for my sister, my BIL and my two nieces to wish them a safe flight back home from their holiday destination. And I thought this angel to be absolutely perfect. Oh Happy Day!!

Ja ja, en dat is het echt, niet alleen omdat de zon schijnt, maar omdat ik van twee lieve blogvriendinnen hele gave post heb mogen ontvangen. Dit onwijs liefdevol verzorgde pakket met als thema "ballet" stuurde Odetta van Somerset Garden me op, gewoon zomaar! Vond dat zo'n ongelooflijk lief gebaar dat ik haar heb uitgenodigd voor een High Tea binnenkort, vond het wel eens tijd worden om elkaar "live" te ontmoeten en we hebben er allebei vreselijk veel zin in! Kijk eens naar die prachtig gestempelde zakjes die allemaal gevuld waren met de meest romantische items, kant, versieringen, gewoon teveel om op te noemen!!
Yes, yes, it really is and not just because the sun is shining today, but because two of my dear blog friends have made me so happy with their happy mail. Just look at this loving, stunningly beautiful kit Odetta from Somerset Garden sent me. The theme being "Ballet". She sent it to me for no particular reason! I thought this was such a sweet and dear gesture that I invited her to have High Tea with me in a couple of days. Thought it was high time to meet each other IRL and we are both looking forward to it! Just look at those wonderfully stamped bags, and they were all filled with such marvellous goodies:
